Yes and we know that now. But trust me, in the medical community no one knew for certain how it transmitted, when it surfaced in the early 80’s. Just saying that it was 100% fatal (as the earlier deaths probably had had the disease for a couple of years at least).
The medical community traced it to ‘patient zero’, a gay French flight attendant who likely brought it back from Europe, in the mid-70’s. I only remember his last name was Dugasc, or something like that.
