A car drove onto a closed freeway early Saturday and struck two people in a crowd protesting against police brutality, killing one and critically injuring the other, authorities said.
Summer Taylor, 24, of Seattle died in the evening at Harborview Medical Center, spokesperson Susan Gregg said.

Dawit Kelete of Seattle drove the car around vehicles that were blocking I-5 and sped into the crowd about 1:40 a.m., according to a police report released by the Washington State Patrol. Video taken at the scene by protesters showed people shouting “Car! Car!” before fleeing the roadway.
Love is in serious condition in the intensive care unit, Harborview, Gregg said.
Love was filming the protest in a nearly two-hour-long Facebook livestream captioned “Black Femme March takes I-5” when the video ended abruptly; with about 15 seconds left, shouts of “Car!” can be heard as the camera starts to shake before screeching tires and the sound of impact are heard.

The driver, who was alone, fled the scene after hitting the protesters, Trooper Chase Van Cleave told The Associated Press. One of the other protesters got in a car and chased the driver for about a mile. He was able to stop him by pulling his car in front of the Jaguar, Van Cleave said.
Troopers arrived, and the driver was put in custody, Washington State Patrol Capt. Ron Mead said.
Kelete was described by offices as reserved and sullen when he was arrested, according to court documents. He also asked if the pedestrians were OK, the documents say.

True, but reports are that the stretch of I-5 was closed by the cops well before the incident. From the link:

Mead said they suspect Kelete drove the wrong way on a ramp. Trooper Rick Johnson said the driver went through a barrier that closed the freeway.
So much for the driver being an innocent victim.
Wow. This is unfortunate for the young man. Hopefully he will find good legal help.
After studying the video, I find no fault in his actions. I probably would have done the same thing.
You can tell he was not going the wrong way. Look at the on ramp in the video.

OK, the cops’ statements are contradictory, but why did he go through the barrier which closed the ramp? Was there no other way to get from A to B?
I don’t think killing a couple of protestors was the motive for what he did. I think he was just acting irresponsibly and that led to the incident. Maybe he thought that he had rights that other people don’t have. Some people are like that.
The police report will be interesting. I’m sure they have the readout from the car’s black box.
His job title was “Operations Manager.”

I have zero sympathy for these petulant little terrorists.
They want to protest, that’s fine go to a park and protest, go to city hall and protest.
But the minute they take away a person’s right to free movement, or they illegally detain people by blocking a major road or highway they become fair game to taste a bumper or two. A lot of these roads and highways have signs that clearly states that pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles are prohibited.
No other civilized country in the world would allow these terrorists to block highways as they get away with here. In Germany, the Polizei would be out there with water cannons, and the officers on foot would be cracking skulls with the Hickory clubs/batons and leather wrapped saps they carry.
