Btw, what are the regulations on catch, weigh, measure, tag & releasing BIG sharks in that area?? (I have just “fallen heir to” a 120# class rod/reel & some other HD gear & want to try it out on a monster shark.)

Because of my wife's health,(Alzheimers) I don't do any offshore fishing any more, so I am not up on the ever changing shark protections, and lengths for the ones you can take or the number you can take.

Besides Federal you will have to also meet the State rules.

When I stopped shark fishing -Basking-Dusky-Sandbar-sandtiger-and whites were protected in my area.
A 50 wide with 60 or80 lb test was the biggest reel we used ,usually a 50 with 60 lb line, because it was a standup rig.

If you use that heavier reel ,it might end up in a rod holder.- Tom

(I lost my mother in SEP 2017 to that AWFUL disease/condition.)
