There is no logic to their thinking, it is insane thinking.
Seems to be a lot of that going around lately.
Observed more closely, it could almost be the result of panic.
Gotta be careful of critters of any type in that circumstance. Been known to bite/claw/attack everything within reach.
Including itself.
