surgeons use them to keep large body fluid particles out of the surgical field. They cannot take their hands off the sterile field to cover a cough or sneeze. Surgeons also wear the appropriately, discard after each use as intended, and NEVER touch their face once the mask is in place. They also combine the mask with sterile gown and gloves, hair covering and surgical drapes in a meticulously clean environment with everyone wearing hospital laundered scrubs Far cry from the politically correct snot rags worn ill fitting and incorrectly in the grocery store. Even at that there isn’t much evidence surgical masks are that effective in the OR except keep
