The Anglican church should rethink depictions of Jesus as a white man in traditional Christian imagery, the head of the Church of England said Friday.

Justin Welby, archbishop of Canterbury, was asked in an interview with BBC Radio 4 if the Western mindset that Jesus looked Caucasian needs to be reconsidered in light of the Black Lives Matter movement.

“Yes of course it does, this sense that God was white … You go into churches [around the world] and you don’t see a white Jesus,” he said. “You see a black Jesus, a Chinese Jesus, a Middle-Eastern Jesus — which is of course the most accurate — you see a Fijian Jesus.”

The archbishop was commenting on the belief that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, part of what’s now considered the Middle East.

As such, statues of Jesus in Canterbury Cathedral will be under review

Jesus was born in the particular region As ordained by God. Not being jealous about that is what people need to strive to be, also ordained by God.

The recognized saints come in every race and in both sexes. There are women doctors of the Church as well as men as women have as much ability to understand theology ands men and vice versa. Ditto people of all races.

Many believe that the Mother of Jesus appears to people. All things are possible through God. When she does it is of the local race, nationality, customers, clothes and language of the local people. Japan, Vietnam, Rwanda, Mexico and others.

The whole point is that Jesus became like us and died for all of us. Artistically, the best way to express that truth visually is to show Jesus looking like the people in each local church. Showing him looking Scandinavian, French, black, Chinese, Middle Eastern, and like all the rest of us is theologically accurate, much more important in religious art than historical accuracy.

The prophets said He would be born in Bethlehem and He was. After leaving Egypt later he resided in Nazareth and people began to refer to Him as Jesus of Nazareth.

The funny thing about that line is that most of the urban sh!tholes rotted because those evil straight white Christian males left.

A lot of this unrest is about the flight of that tax base, but rather than attract them back the cities are doing their best to drive them further away.

This country relied on those people to have families and tie themselves to mortgages on homes that produced taxes for municipalities and counties; once they shied away from that (for many reasons), this outcome was inevitable - the permanent underclass had lost its funding.
