I find it nothing but pandering and groveling. It’s not been a nationally-known day (my husband only just found out when I brought it up last week, and I only because few years back it was brought up on some documentary). I’m betting most blacks didn’t know about it...because it was local!
Nothing more than Cinco de Mayo, with exact same background and same intention...undermine this country.
I hate the name juneteenth. It sounds like something someone retarded would say. How can blacks be proud of it?

Not much of history seems to be important today, why is this day so important?
Was scheduled to work my day off for some extra cash, turns out our day shift was made to take 1/2 day and us overtime guys were sent home before our day started.
Never heard of juneteenth before, not an immediate fan of it.

If invited to a party to celebrate it we went and had a good time. Now I think it has become tainted with politics.
If the same people who I know in the past have celebrated it invite us over we will go. Those who are trying to be fashionable and trendy will receive a polite decline.
I think it should be lumped in with MLK day, the same way they did with American Presidents.

I find it very hypocritical to celebrate Juneteenth (end of Slavery), and leave the Political Party that gave us Slavery, the Civil War, Jim Crow, and seggregation n tact. We should outlaw the Democratic Party.
I learned about Juneteenth over a decade ago. This isn’t news or sudden to me. The huge hype over it is though, and on the part of all politicians I believe the push is backed by cowardice.
The holiday goes back to the 1860’s, so it’s by no means new, but I don’t think it was widely celebrated for the entirety of its existence. Like with Cinco though, it’s mostly an excuse to have a BBQ and get blitzed.
The name is ridiculous. However celebrating the end of slavery is good. I mean nobody wanted it to continue that’s for sure. But I think a rename is in order. Cinco de Mayo is a beer holiday. I went to mexico May 5th one year and they don’t celebrate it at all.
I celebrate it every bit as much as I celebrate Kwanza.
The holiday name doesn’t make sense. Until recently, I never heard of it. However, I would not be opposed to a National Holiday recognizing the freeing of a people from the oppression of slavery. I was once asked, if I had one hour to spend on a park bench and discuss any topic, who would I spend that time with? My answer was, an imperfect God fearing man who wanted all people to live in harmony. Martin Luther King. That’s from an old white guy that is tired of seeing our country ripped apart by segregationists and politicians that don’t give a damn.
I moved to Texas in early June, 1967, and was almost immediately informed of Juneteenth.
