Mao did considerable damage to the Chinese language . My daughter sat down one day with a friend from Taiwan. She showed her the traditional Chinese characters, the Maoist simplified characters, and the loss of nuances and depth of meaning which the simplification caused. Major dumbing down of an entire culture.
