Last updated: 12:21 PM ET, Fri June 12 2020 Carnival CEO Unsure When Cruises Will Return, Says Demand Still High
Travel Pulse ^ | June 12, 2020 | DONALD WOOD

Posted on 06/14/2020 1:19:33 PM PDT by Capt. Tom

The CEO of Carnival Cruise Line recently said in an interview that he doesn’t know when the cruise line will sail again.
According to Cruise Critic, Carnival CEO Arnold Donald said there was a communication sent out erroneously that said voyages would resume on August 1. Donald told the website in an exclusive interview that he doesn’t “know when we’ll sail again.”
While the press release claimed eight ships would begin sailing from the ports of Galveston, Miami and Port Canaveral, Donald revealed the message was not “a pronouncement that we are coming back on August 1.” Donald said the false announcement proved to be “one of the most insightful mistakes we've ever made,” since it caused bookings to skyrocket, signifying many travelers are ready to sail as soon as voyages recommence.

Because of the arbitrary country and port shutdowns around he world, any trips within the next few months can be changed, since our incompetent CDC and UNWHO stay involved, and countries follow their suggestions.
Cruise lines will be forced to accommodate the whims of these two proven incompetent so-called health organizations.

MY daughter just had her late July trip on MSC line wiped out.

Folks packing into retail, packing into mass protests and riots...

But want to get away on a relatively peaceful ship? Too bad...

No Trump Victory Cruise?

Carnival controls Celebrity- and Cunard-and Holland American and ???. so decisions will have to be made on many cruises. Including Celebrities Trump Cruise.
Carnival has 26 different cruise ships in their organization. -Tom

Sorry for being cynical, but Carnival announced August 1, a LONG TIME AGO. If it was a really a ‘communication error’, they wouldn’t have taken weeks to ‘correct it’.

But what they did accomplish was separating thousands more people from their money, through their policy of making it quite cumbersome to get a refund. And that’s important, as they still have payments to make on their big boats.

This should help their stock tomorrow. Sarc. I was buying carnival stock every week until it hit 13 dollars. I have money in the Ameritrade account ready to but more. Maybe tomorrow may be the day. I’ve made a fortune but it’s still hovering at 20 dollars. Too expensive right now. I like it at the 12 dollar mark at least for now.

Exxon is killing it too. Bought at 39. Doing decent.

Carnival controls Celebrity

Royal Caribbean owns Celebrity.

Carnival doesn't really have an "upscale" line, but Princess is probably the closest equivalent to Royal Caribbean International's Royal Caribbean mass market line.

Thanks for the correction.

I should have looked it up. -Tom

Carnival Cruises is one of eight diverse cruise lines owned by the parent company, Carnival Corporation. The other cruise lines in the corporation include Aida Cruises (German), Costa Cruises, Cunard Line, Holland America Line, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, and Seabourn Cruises.

Years ago when we would cruise the Caribbean on Cruise ships we would also have a vacation where we would charter a sailboat and sail the various Caribbean Islands, on our own.

On our last Caribbean sailboat charter many years ago,we did not get back our $500 deposit when we returned home .
The Charter company went out of business.

I felt bad for the people after us who payed the full bill, and flew to St. Thomas in the Caribbean , only to find out the Charter Company was gone and no sailboats available for them. They lost everything.- Tom

Interesting. I had no idea upscale cruise ships were under their (carnival) umbrella. I just always got the idea that Carnival was rather trashy in comparison to other lines.

What do you think is ‘trashy’ about Carnival?
The ship... passengers...crew...?
Just curious.

I have read that Carnival is huge, overpacked, & has a ton of kids. Maybe it is meant for them. I have only some comments that I’ve read....
no first hand information. If that’s incorrect let me know.

Depends on the season about the overload of kids. It’s really no different from other ships.
Same with trashy people.
I was on a Carnival cruise during Thanksgiving. Never again!
