First of all, anyone in their right mind to any degree whatsoever knows that will not work and is counter intuitive to the same demands of gun control.
So what do they really want to do?
Follow the money and you will arrive at the destination and conclusion. Follow the Democrat money.

Now remember that earlier in April or May I (and others) was/were showing links to various bills in Congress and we heard about some of the popular (unpopular to us) legislation. For instance, The HR 6666, The Unite Act, The Heroes Act and more.
What do they all have in common? Contact Tracing. And forming a Contract tracing Army. Or maybe we shall call it virus police (for now). I'm not gong to post all the links because with the titles of the Bills I just posted you can find everything to establish what we already (now) know. For instance, the Unite Act. I posted that The Unite Act would use the Clinton Foundation's Americorp to enlist contact tracers.
The idea here is tracking and tracing of course. Virus or no virus we know that when some piece of idiotic legislation becomes law it is almost impossible to get rid of it. (i.e. Obamacare)
All of this would have to be localized. County Health Departments would be in charge. Your local snitch force is in effect.

If you look at the hierarchical structure of China's government down to the local level, you have, at the bottom, the neighborhood watchman (your local snitches) that report on up the chain and make sure everyone does what they are told. This has been effectively used to control Covid19 in the Provinces.
This type of structure is almost certainly what the democrat controlled cities would put in place. It decentralizes, at least for visibility purposes, a police force and makes it appear as non threatening. (A "citizen" force in its place) But that is only a visual. Local groups would patrol their own people and keep and eye and tabs on them to make sure they are in compliance with whatever (unconstitutional) laws and ordinances are in place and report on up the chain to the more aggressive enforcement entities that chiefly remain hidden.
If you don't think that is the plan, just watch in the coming days, weeks, months, as protests continue, and you will see this type of structure implemented. The Democrats are bought and paid for by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) and admire their system. I have been told this by some I know directly.
That is what is on the line this election, among other things.
This is the next logical step for the communist left.
And you can bank on it. They do. Literally.
Now do the calls for defunding the police make sense?
