That is the problem with Houston Independent School District. They will only hire education majors. Yet there are a lot of retired engineers and scientists here, but they are regarded as not knowing anything. And at one college of education, it’s taught that math is white privilege, and “logic and reason is the perpetuation of white cishetero patriarchy”.

There is an art to teaching. There really is. How you present a topic to a group of unmotivated high school kids is very different than how you would present that same topic to a group of college majors.
I strongly support using retired engineers and scientists as public school teachers. But without some training, it could be disastrous. I’ve seen that happen!
So what kind of training would be needed? A degree in education? Hell, no! That would pollute their minds. I would suggest instead that they spend a couple of months (yes, months) observing a master teacher in action.
