the very people who developed this biological warfare agent totally freaked out when it was detected outside the confines of the lab

Once we had realistic actual data, i.e. mostly harmless to people under 65, mostly harmless even to them in the absence of co-morbidities

Still think I belong on the Daily KOS?

You have serious conflicting beliefs that you are working through. Your head has been filled with info from many sources. Some of those sources pedal nonsense from people whose primary goal is to confuse and muddy the waters to conquer.

At this point we still do not even know for sure that this virus originally even came from Wuhan or if that was just the place where it first took hold because of high population density with many people sharing small apartments, mass transit, a high percentage of smokers, and a number of other factors. We can be sure that much of the early hysterical reporting was complete hogwash. And much of the reporting since has been even worse.

It is highly unlikely that the Chinese government would intentionally develop a “bioweapon” that is “mostly harmless to people under 65, mostly harmless even to them in the absence of co-morbidities” and then unleash it in one of their most densely populated industrial areas.

I was a senior officer on a Hazmat team for many years; we drilled with the military frequently. We planned for all sorts of scenarios that sometimes seemed a little outlandish. But we never planned for something as nonsensical as what you believe this is.

I have a neighbor who I really like, but he buys into every far fetched conspiracy theory that comes down the line... so I heard the bioweapon theory as soon as we received the news about problems in Wuhan. He becomes highly irritated anytime anyone asks any questions that probe whether or not the theories he buys into make any sense. We are not currently on speaking terms since I asked him a few questions about his deeply held contention that vaccinations have never had any positive benefit.

I am glad that you consider information that is fed to you by various sources and have the capacity to absorb material. I certainly would not rule out all “conspiracy theories” which seemingly make no sense. My father told me long ago that simple stupidity rules the world.

At this point however what is is most concerning to me is the way that interests who desire to disrupt the economy for various nefarious reasons have used a pathogen that is marginally worse than many forms of influenza to do it. The actual origins and characteristics of the novel coronavirus are of much less consequence. The way it has been leveraged to create world wide havoc is what is truly scary. Is it simple stupidity or have we all been played big time?

As far as whether you belong at Daily Kos... probably not, but don't let the leftist schemers play on your vulnerabilities.

Three words have made it essentially unchanged from Chinese to English:

Kaolin, a fine very pure alumina clay used to make, well, china.

Gungho, pull together, or enthusiasm.

and

Kowtow, the act of deep respect shown by prostration, that is, kneeling and bowing so low as to have one’s head touching the ground. In East Asian culture, the kowtow is the highest sign of reverence.

When it comes to China, you seem to personify the last two.
