Sounds like my buddy in the UK who tells me stuff like “We just want our old pal America back”. “Old pal” meaning the kind that is the worlds defender (for free), doormat, philanthropist, zero-interest lender (or giver), and who sends a dolt like Obama over to bow and scrape to their leaders.
Screw the EU and most other countries. If countries like Germany, France or UK wants to make nice, start acting like partners instead of prima donnas.
