Turning fuel to off is a common requirement when you have multiple tanks and need to balance the fuel loads. Obviously he didn’t have the fuel turned off from the beginning and it does take a positive action on most planes to turn off the fuel from one tank to transfer from another. If his fuel transfer had been set to off based on the wreckage, he would have had to do it as is is a manual system. He couldn’t have started and flown to where he got with ‘fuel turned off’.

Thank You. So is it something a pilot would do if they were losing consciousness or experiencing vertigo?
