Initially, the B1 design and fabrication was done by North American Rockwell at El Segundo CA (directly South of LAX in the same North American Aviation hangers and design offices that developed the P-51 Mustang, F-86 Sabre Jet and F-100 Super Sabre). Around 1972 the facility was renamed to Rockwell International where final assembly of the four B-1A prototypes was later completed.

Thanks for the additional info. We could probably share further stories together. I knew about the previous name but failed to provide the detail. My experience came along when I graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Electrical Engineer during December of 1981. That was right about the time President Reagan revived the B1 project. Jobs were rather difficult at that time and I remember showing up the morning following the announcement and they started taking applications. It was a madhouse.

I ended up with General Dynamics in Fort Worth and started a carreer in writing software for stealth technology prediction and analysis. Years later I worked from General Electric Aircraft Engines in Evendale, Ohio and several of my coworkers, including my manager, were former Rockwell engineers who migrated to GE after the B1 project completed year earlier. I miss that interesting work.
