Thank you for the explanation of the rule, Steven. I think the term is limited to 6 years but Senator Grassley only served 4. I was wondering aloud if the postponement of his final two years might have been planned, and if so, what others think the purpose might be.
This is just an example, but Senator Grassley oversaw the vast majority of PDJT’s judicial appointments. Maybe the team foresaw another set of important appointments in the next Congress; important by either their sheer number (removal/resignation of judges) or the type of judge (another Supreme Court pick - or two).
