You’re preaching to the choir!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had just finished reading an AP story implying that public outcry has “corrected” the VA’s efforts at treating Covid so now it is limited to last ditch efforts to save a Covid patient’s life!!!! Furious.”unproven” etc.
the links in the story lead to another AP story which has links to another AP story. Circular.
We tore the VA study apart. It wasn't the VA who did the study(which AP kinda admits).
One of the AP stories quotes the VA about these Vets being at end of life stages - which the AP doesn't refute. The AP also fails to mention that Zinc wasn't used.
Here's part of what I posted back then:
I’m guessing no one looked at the actual report.
It’s a study, not a clinical trial, hence it’s anecdotal.
...
So what does the headline “Largest yet survey...” actually mean?
The VA study was retrospective.
The data for the study was mined post-action.
Patients age range is 59-75 with a median age = 66. All patients in the study were male.
17 infected female patients were not included in the study.
Interestingly, an overwhelming majority, 236 of 368 male patients, were black - this is a current identified nationwide trend.
Neither zinc or the z-pack was administered in any of these cases. (I was wrong Zpack was admin'd)
of the 368:
248 had diabetes.
7 had cancer
9 had HIV
92 had renal disease
72 had COPD
18 previously had heart attacks.
85 had congestive heart failure
8 were paraplegic\hemiplegic
Nothing indicates these are unique, so 1 person could have all the under-lying conditions.
There were 70 deaths and no mention of deaths by race.
https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.16.20065920v1.full.pdf
and so it goes...
and this from a later post:
The VA’s case pull index date range is 03/09/2020-04/11/2020.
Something is not quite right with this study.
There were only 731 COVID cases identified in the U.S. on 03/08/2020.
https://covidtracking.com/data/us-daily
Why was the VA using hydroxychloroquine on 03/09/2020? Hydroxychloroquine was at most an FDA “compassionate use” drug at that time.
Makes we wonder if this study actually shows just the opposite? that more of these Vets lived because of Hydroxychloroquine?
I would like to see exactly when these 368 went into the hospital with what symptoms.
The AP should be called to task for no in-depth investigation. I suppose I should have contacted the reporter ...
I ended up firing off some questions to the AP’s Chief Medical Writer - Marilynn Marchione
