I’m having a hard time figuring out why it’s still necessary for Trump to continue slamming Sessions as hard as he still does. I understand that the optics were necessary when he was Attorney General but why the need to continue? It’s unclear to me.

I only have a guess here two possible reasons come to mind.
#1 Donald Trump couldn’t “know” in the eyes of the public that Jeff Sessions was forced to recuse by the deep state until Jeff went public with it.
#2 - the Deep Staters keep trying to teach the public to believe that everyone who doesn’t do what the Deep State tells them to do is bought and paid for by Trump. Trump may want to make clear to the public that he doesn’t have sychophants doing as he tells them, each person in his administration is responsible for their own decision making hence he and Jeff don’t socialize etc.

THe only reason I can think of is, well two, (1) maybe it will help non-Trump supporters in Alabama vote for Sessions or (2) Sessions is slated to have a role in upcoming trials somehow, and this way his actions in trials will not tainted by “partisanship”. I’ve been leaning towards #2, the first one just occurred to me now.

Trump can't stand Sessions.

It isn't an act.

I definitely agree with you.

It is possible Trump would not have even secured the nomination if Sessions had gone to Cruz, as Cruz so ardently hoped. There were no other major politicians on Trump's side early on. For some voters, it helped to have Sessions in the picture.

I do not think Jeff was a very good A.G., but I attribute that to lack of executive experience, and underestimating the depths and treachery of the swamp. In other words, shortcomings for the particular job, not betrayals.

His Letter to Alabama voters was, in my opinion, very convincing. I regard him as a fine Southern gentleman, and think he would make a great Senator again.

That’s troubling me too. Didn’t the President even endorse Sessions’ primary opponent? That’s harsh, so there seems to be more there than we know. I’m not privy to the details of the plan, but I’d like to think we’re past the point of still needing disinformation in the case of Sessions.

Another possibility is that, since the R’s held the House and Senate at the time, had Sessions refused to recuse, the President is steadfast in his belief that there wouldn’t have been any fallout and Mueller wouldn’t have had to happen. He’s wrong, of course, because of all the compromised R’s that infected the House and Senate, but we all know that the President prizes loyalty practically above all else. He might have just wanted to see some pushback.

A third option is that Sessions may still be needed in a court or tribunal setting, and somebody thinks that the appearance of some amount of enmity between he and PDJT will give Sessions’ statements more credibility. That’s less likely.

Hard to say, but it makes me squirm just a bit when the President piles it on Sessions so thickly.
