goodwill and the Starvation Army have been raising their prices but so far St Vincent de Paul has kept used stuff affordable.
so far, anyway.
and we always buy as much stuff as we can at any of these charity thrift stores. SOME older things were made better than some of the new junque. Also, it is, well, thrifty.. why pay $40 for something you can get for $6 or $7? Mostly, however, we like the idea that our donations (lots of them, thankfully!) and also our purchases help keep these places in operation.. as they do help a lot of people
One of the reasons thrift stores raised prices is “pickers”.
People go scarf up all the most desirable and designer clothes and resell them on apps like ebay, Poshmark, etc.
They jacked the prices up to take away the profit margin for “pickers”.
I see people running through thrift stores grabbing carts full of clothing that have no fit/style/gender rhyme or reason for the actual person buying them.
I love shopping Goodwill, etc....I have found some great items, one being an original painting by a woman known as the "grandma moses of California" and I know she exhibited at the SF Museum of art, and this particular painting hung at the Nixon west coast home...someday you'll see me on Antique Roadshow...:)
