There was a push back in the US to stop gain in function research, but the NIH restarted it on it’s own, I guess. Hundreds of virologists had signed a petition to stop it. With SARS Cov-2, there are missing evolutionary/mutation links that cannot be explained. It would require a bat and pangolins virus to partially combine.

If WHO was a real organization actually interested in world health, they would be drafting a treaty to ban this type of research worldwide, with verification protocols, and severe sanctions for scientists who violated the ban.

Crazy dream, I know.
