"Provisional Death Counts for Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19):"
I saw social media posting claiming this all over the place. I can see why people are confused.
Someone is taking data out of context. Hopefully this helps some people understand the difference in numbers.
Provisional define: existing for the present, possibly to be changed later. Meaning those numbers are not the final numbers. The numbers are waiting on some actions to be completed. More Death Certificate on the way.
The Provisional Death is always two weeks behind the higher numbers.
NCHS quote on the lower : "“Our counts often track 1–2 weeks behind other data for a number of reasons: Death certificates take time to be completed. There are many steps involved in completing and submitting a death certificate. Waiting for test results can create additional delays. States report at different rates."
Here is a good report explaining the different in numbers.It says right in the article that it takes weeks for some of the data to reach them. People are using that site to spread a false narrative. It’s a lag in official reporting, not a discrepancy in the death count. Take a look at the table and tell me why, miraculously, when on average 50-55k people die in any given week prior to CCP-19, only 22k people died in the week ending 5/2.
