Ugh....translated my Cherokee Purple toms into a garden bed....for whatever reason the atarts would not pop out with the soil attached.
All the tap roots were intact and I got them planted with the taproot intact and at length but I may lose half or more of them...fingers crossed.
I hate that!
The one good thing about those little Jiffy pellets is that’s never an issue. It would probably be way too expensive for someone with a sizable operation but for just edging a suburban backyard I love it. I popped them I to the ground after digging holes with a bulb planter.
Tomatoes are surprisingly resilient. Mom transplanted her own tomato starts for the first time this year. At one point she had the top of the tomato plant in one hand, and the roots in the other, because it tore while getting it out of the tray. She planted both pieces, and they both grew!
