This may be a recent change. If you read the history of Islamic butchery, it’s pretty amazing. Their butchery and torture against any who opposed their conquests was so horrible it’s difficult to read about (for me anyway). They made piles of skulls, eyeballs, etc killed people bit by bit, they were very ferocious. I have a book I could recommend if you’re interested.
Perhaps now with modern military opposing them their ferociousness has died down.
Modern warfare 1850 forward trumps butchery and torture (terror). Looking at the torture and barbarism on the helpless would suggest that the ferocity hasn't died down at all, however when confronted by a determined capable enemy (us) they are as Bagster said 'the worst warriors in human history.
