Currently, they are using HK to get all benefits. HK business will revolt against China. Currently, they are ignoring/bowing to Chinese pressure.
When I was working in Singapore in early 90s, lot of Rich Hongkong citizens were moving to Singapore. Those who stayed back were unable to leave behind the property or created dual residence.

Let me define the nature of Chinese (from mainland China), Hongkong and Singaporean.
The intention is not to be a Stereotype.
Chinese - Very secretive, hide feelings, always scared of other Chinese, very suspicious. Even out of the country, well-tuned with CCP, sexual pervert.
HongKong - Aggressive, materialistic, rude, over their head, coward.
Singapore - Follow Government rules like a religion, materialistic, selfish, you can push them around easily.
Females are very dominating in all these countries. In Singapore they rule, BOSS.

When I did the Census follow ups on the phone...i never talked to a Chinese woman. It was always the man who did the follow ups and I NEVER had a nice Chinese on the phone. The were ugly/rude/disrespectful/demanded I pronounce everyone name on the list over and over as they would correct my pronounciations. It got to where I would slaughter every name as much as possible and deliberately get worse the more they demand I start over or stop and correct me. I never got points taken off because I was as sweet as sugar while I slaughtered. It got to be my enjoyment for the night...lol
