Tell that to Taiwan, where they have ZERO transmission and MANDATORY masks. Pretty much the same for South Korea now, too.

They prevent the spewing of virus-laden droplets from inside you if you are a carrier, and they also keep you from wiping your nose and mouth with your dirty virus-contaminated fingers.
