But -- since FR (and all other news -- including the above CNN travesty) is filled with wildly varying claims as to the actual effect of COVID-19 in the US, I offer the following choropleths as a "dose of realism" summary:
Looks like a NY+NJ problem, to me...
But, of course, if anyone knows what's going on in Randolph County, GA or in Lincoln County, AR -- (Prisons? Indian reservations?) -- I'd appreciate local info.
FYI, I got the dates as close together as the posted data allowed. If anyone wants to explore more maps like this (at full size), check out http://7lstv.com/covid19/...
Have fun!

“But, of course, if anyone knows what’s going on in Randolph County, GA or in Lincoln County, AR — (Prisons? Indian reservations?) — I’d appreciate local info.”
NOT from those places but from the only blue county (top map) in Montana...
Bozeman/Gallatin County is a recreational it is busy 100% of the year (Missoula only has summer trade with the liberal arts college). A VERY active high-tech area and home of the state engineering college. BZN is the busiest airport in the state serving 900,000 people a year (Montana’s population is just a bit more).
Once this whole thing started to ‘go down’ our GA (general aviation = private aircraft) was off the charts...It was like the summer fair (The Sweet Pea Festival), but with BBJ’s and private 757’s added...
This county is twice the size of Rhode Island with 1/10th the population...and we have about 60,000 residences (i.e. folks buy 2nd, 3rd, 4th,,,7th homes here).
Our ‘blue’ is due to our tourism, business travel (I used to be - literally - in seat 1A every other Monday @ 6:10 AM) the college and other factors...
We are just ‘opening up’ and are doing well.
Perhaps not the exact answer you were hoping for, but an insight to this oddity.
Yeah, what’s going on in OhiO?
++++!

Lincoln County is where Cummins Prison is located.
An outbreak of the virus in the last week or so has escalated more than I like to think about, since I live a few miles down the road!
