I checked NYC health dept. page. ~10.5K people were confirmed positive for the virus. The other 5K or so were assumed to be positive.
NYC had an estimated population of 8.4M in 2018.

Those “assumed” cases tend to mess up the science. But it is what it is. I just hope it is the best data available.
