Decibels (dB) are measured on a logarithmic scale.

Weather radar measures the level precipitation (rain, sleet, hail, snow) by the strength of the radar return. In the top picture, the yellow return is 35dB while the deep purple is 55dB. This means that the signal return from the deep purple is 200 times the signal return.

I do not know what a return of 35dB translates to in terms of rain rate.

10 times log(2/1)=3
