“The Covid-19 shutdowns have been based on the premise that the disease would kill more than two million Americans absent drastic actions to slow its spread.”

Differpeople had different goals. Fauci wanted lockdown until a vaccine came available. For real. Economic consequences be damned.

Most seemed to want to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed, to the point people were dying on gurneys in hallways due to lack of treatment—mainly not enough ventilators. At the time, people thought the number of ventilators was the determining factor of who would live or die. Early pics from Italy showed that kind of chaos.

That didn’t happen. So they moved the goalposts to “slow the spread,” for, well, slowing the spread’s sake. No actual reason given. That’s insane!!! Meanwhile, in America, close to 1,000,000 JOBS EACH DAY ARE LOST!!!! Every day counts!!!

Open everything NOW!!!!!!

That was the goal - to make it not happen. It came darn close in NYC even with an extra month to prepare.

Reasons were given. The main reason was given so often on would have to be deliberately obtuse to not know of it. Especially when one references it in the previous sentence.

This is a big point. Most of America was under the same shutdown procedure even though they were not under the same disease threat. The biggest justification for that is all of the bozos refusing to take this outbreak seriously - even during the shutdown, much less before it. I do think many people have a somewhat better appreciation of how desperate things can get from messing up the economics, but using the debt so much more literally like a piggy-bank unfortunately mitigates that understanding for a large portion of the populace who is left wondering why we can’t just do that all the time.
