However your link (and the links within) are from just before the recent outbreak, indicating the research cited may be specific to this exact genome. I’m just posting what pops up when you search for “Gain of Function” and Corona virus. Surprising, actually but there it is in 2015 and the US imposed a moratorium on SPECIFICALLY Corona Virus research and Gain of Function in Horsehoe Bats. The Moratorium was imposed based on Baric’s recommendation and research in 2016 but the moratorium was lifted, it seems, in 2019. Sounds like Trump is just recently hearing about all this. Too bad.
