First Responders More Equal Than Others
15 April 2020

Posted on 04/15/2020 3:59:03 PM PDT by rey

In certain counties, first responders (police) are allowed to enter stores before others and make their purchases without any rationing. As Orwell wrote, some pigs are more equal.

Everyone should have to live under the same rules, ESPECIALLY THE POLICE. To allow them special privileges and to escape the inconveniences associated with this lockdown is disgusting. Law enforcement must understand what it is like to live like those they have power over. To allow them special privilege is license for abuse and makes them more inclined to enforce laws that have no impact on them what so ever. . It smacks of the Stanford Experiment. It is a technique that was used to enable the Stasi to be so abusive toward those they over saw.

Add to it that local government is allowing ranking health officials to make law dictating what is jail able and what is not. Here, in CA, they are releasing prisoners and threatening to jail people who do not wear masks.

The people enforcing the law have little if any regard for the constitution they swore to uphold and defend. I cannot count how many have told me they are simply doing what they are told to do.

CA is talking about masks for a year. A friend who works in law enforcement in another state says he heard masks possibly until mid 2022.

END THE LOCKDOWN NOW!

I haven't had a day off in 16 days you arrogant little child. I cannot wait in line because the stores are closed by the time I have put in ny 12 hour day, completed my charting, helped my colleagues in giving report. You are correct, at this time I am essential to the health of the nation and NONE OF US are getting days off. There is one pig here, and it is you. And I am a single father, so would you like me to give up my child. You know, I dont have a job, I have a calling, I swore an oath to take care of the ill. Here is what our oath states in part: I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm. Yes, I hjave special obligations, and I swore an oath to take care of those inform in mind and soul -- lucky for you.

Yeah, I would gladly help as well. I work for the ACP and understand a lot of what you guys are going through right now. I am also currently helping out a few internists in my area with pet sitting and other chores while they work.

Just because some are asses, know you are appreciated.

I’m just going to throw this out there, because maybe me saying it will be different.

The man works 12 hour shifts. I do to, but I’m off this week (lucky me actually). He starts work before the stores open, since they have shortened hours. He gets off work about 1/2 hour before they close, but by the time he gets from work to the grocery store, he has 15 minutes to do his shopping, and it is the last 15 minutes of the store being open. So, all the important stuff is already gone (TP, Hand Sanitizer, Clorox Wipes, Paper Towels).

Not trying to play favorites here, so much as trying to point out that people in some lines of work or situations are affected different than others.

Like I said, I’m off this week. Ive been to the bank. I’ve been to the grocery store. I’ve been to Home Depot over the last few days. If I were on shift, like I will be next week, I would not be able to go to 2 of those 3. And if I was on continuous 12 hour shifts as Gas_dr has been, then I’d have to find another way too get groceries.

People, at least in some areas, area making sacrifices. I’m sure that some PD’s are taking advantage of an easy gig. But that isn’t true of all, and it’s not good to paint all with such a wide brush.

Yes, its called putting our lives on the line every day to take care of people. I am sorry that you dont think we should be compensated for it.

Who the heck said you (or first responders/those on the front-line) should not get compensated for their efforts?

Problem is that YOU are getting compensated for your efforts, and in some cases, getting extra income. But, FREE groceries and other freebies? FACT is that, not everybody on the front-lines is getting their hours cut, nor their compensation cut. Problem arises when those on the front-line are getting the extra compensation via free groceries and other perks. What about those that lost their jobs? Don't they deserve the same perks, especially when they've lost all their income and perhaps their jobs forever?

I understand certain companies and people feel the need to show appreciation to those taking the 'extra risks', but, people having to sit at home is very risky too, and those people are dying too and their families are being affected just as much as those on the front-lines.

In any case, I don't see why they deserve the extra perks or freebies.

Wow. Do yo treat your patients like that. Obviously you are a quality, compassionate care giver.

Look, it is not my fault that you believed your mommy when she told you that you were special and that you continued to buy into it as an adult because of the profession you chose, but you are not the most important person in the world, nor is your profession. I actually believe the garbage man has a more important job than you because no matter your skill level or how many of you there are, if we live in filth, we are all dead.

I have done things longer, more dangerous, and more arduous than what you are doing and through it all, I realized I was no different than you or any other person.

You are the one who is being arrogant and looking for special treatment. Do you think there is no one else working long hours having difficulty addressing their needs? Why are you more special? The reality is, you are not.

I now it is rough on everyone. I truly empathize with that. All I am saying is the police and the medical personnel are not as special as they or anyone else thinks. They think that because they are given, and I argue wrongly given, special dispensation they are deserving of it. I also say to allow yourself to be adorned with such treatment is not healthy. Read about The Stanford Experiment and You will have an idea of what I speak.

Why isn’t the person working long hours at the factory making PPE for the hard working officers and health care professionals given special treatment or alleged hero status. The so called heroes can’t do their job without this factory worker.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the trash collector, the plumber, the people working at the sewage treatment plant do a job far more important than law enforcement or medical personnel. It would not matter how many well trained officers and doctors we had if we were living in absolute, disease ridden filth.

I well know the jobs that many of these privileged people do. All I am saying is they are not so privileged as they think and they need to get in line with everyone else. They certainly are due any freebies.

28 years in law enforcement.

Irrespective of your indie view of the job, I would rather have my life saved than have my trash delayed, Firefighters, EMTs cops are rated high rimy book than trash collectors. Pass the matches,

But if you had any sense of what you say, if I understand you correctly, no one would be able to save your life if we all lived in squalor. If garbage was piled high and vermin running wild, if sewage was flowing the streets and streams.
Disease would be rampant and it would overrun resources much more so than this pandemic is allegedly doing. All are certainly needed but you need plumbing and your trash taken away everyday, generally speaking, you don’t need medical attention daily and if you did, it would not matter if you lived in filth.

well at least you have gone from absolute filth down to filth. You must pay someone to clean your house. Have you ever been in a garbage strike. Or kinoved where there is no service.

Your lack of respect for cops is duly noted.

Good-bye.

First your screen name designates you to be royalty. Secondly if you don’t want us to save you I encourage you not to seek medical attention. Thirdly if you have indeed done something more dangerous than I applaud you

But most importantly you are the ass saying that we have privilege. No we are working long and hard hours and cannot get to the store or to places for our basic necessities. You are the one spewing left wing statements like privilege and bitching that someone else may get something -you don’t have. I assure you that when I go tomorrow night to my local grocery store that values what my job does with a special one hour, I’ll pick up the staples I need for my family and go home. You and your ilk have suggested we wi go racing from store to store to hoard al the good stuff leaving you without. The absurdity of that statement is breathtaking.

I wi spend 20 minutes shipping getting the essentials to take care of my family and go home and probably go to seep and be back at it the following morning/. If you relays want to know my next scheduled day off is in 15 days. Assuming I get that day off I will have worked 30+ days in a row.

I am sorry you feel as if you Are somehow being disrespected. Thankfully the majority of human beings are happy to help us out as we are serving the public. And in this fine and this place what I am my colleagues are doing is incredibly special. Every nurse who assists me every ARNP RRT and hospital support person who allows me to take word caws care f my patients is incredibly special. The folks who encourage us and pray for us and support our mission are special. I

In a different time and place when someone else has the skills that save lives and have been trained for a decade in his or her art that saves thousands of Ives i will happily stand aside and insist that the community helps take are of them.

You seem to have failed one of the more basic of Commandments. Thou shall not covet.

So I will pray for you as you seem to I’ve a miserable existence of worrying about what others may have instead of rejoicing in what you have. I give thanks that you have revealed to me the inner strength we as a community of front line people ‘have to take care of all comes, even those bitter and hateful of us.

And I give thanks for those who choose of their own free will to offer their private business to us to assist us in our needs so we may continue to be of service with our gifts to all we serve.

You cannot respect someone who demands it and accepts special privileges. Respect is earned and by placing yourself over others.

There are 686,665 officers in the US. Fewer than 200 die every year (the average is around 155 but I will use 200). That means that .00029 officer die per year. A sad number n deed but it hardly all that dangerous. IN fact, there are 16 professions more deadly than police officer:

Do they get head of the line privileges?

I don’t covet you and they do. You expect something special. Despite what your mommy told you, you are not special.

Your job does not even make the list for dangerous professions.

Yes, it takes a lot of education, but so do many other jobs.

Again, the trash collect, the plumber, and the sewage system is far more important to our well being than you are. No matter your skill or how many of you there are, if we are in utter squalor, you are fighting a losing battle, no matter how noble your actions.

In my book, the trash collector belongs in the line far, far ahead of you and law enforcement.

I understand and in fact agree with you as first responders are not the leader (although they certainly have a leader, of course); they are the first response team, would you not agree, my FRiend? Cheers!

Nope. First response teams are not that dangerous. Firefighting is actually safer than law enforcement which is actually safer than many other professions.
