As long as ageism doesn’t continue disguised as an attempt to protect the vulnerable.
The temptation is always there to get rid of the old.
It’s a disgrace what is happening in our nursing homes. It’s like God is telling us “This isn’t the way you do it. Don’t stash them away like it’s a storage unit. Keep them in the family.”
Exactly. Keep them home. Send mom outside in the fresh air and sunshine instead of cooped up in a storage unit.
I agree, but somehow we have to restructure things so family care of parents is not such a killer, financially.
I had a long rant written, but, the long and short of it is that a nursing home, despite it’s high cost, is usually the better-by-far financial option for most families. In family P’s care has wrecked us (my family) if one looks at the overall picture. It was the right thing to do, but VERY painful. We kept Mom happy, safe, in the family, and comfortable, but given recent developments (fallout of COVID-19) I will have to work like hell in my (soon to be) late 60’s to not die in poverty. I don’t know if I have it in me.
In England, one nursing home’s staff have moved into the facility and closed the doors behind them. No way CV will attack their patients.
