That is correct. Ventilators are machines to help patients breathe.

Respirators (in simple form) are filters and are worn by the rest of us, including hospital staff (also much used in woodworking to filter out dust.)

Do a go-ogle search on each and click on “images”. Easy to see the difference in the pictures.
