Probably didn't want to linger, couldn't do pills in case she changed her mind. Self hanging took too much determination. If she had single action, that would take the least effort. Everyone knows where their heart is, even when told they don't have one.

In my personal experience (emergency services) women tend to overdose; men use guns. Went on a few calls where women cut their wrists, but those were never deep enough to be dangerous.

That's anecdotal, not statistical.
