Still ... I am wondering if your friend has previous ER and ICU experience to compare it with.
“I don’t know what is going on in other places but a very close friend of mine who is a nurse with 36 yrs experience has told me this has been the absolute worst week of her career and life. She normally works in a dr’s office but they have pulled those med personnel to work at the hospital. She has critical care experience and has been in the ER and ICUs. This is in Raleigh, NC.”
Well I can tell you from working in ICU for many years, an Rn not working in ICU and being pulled there could be terrible situation for you and the pt. But sometimes it happens. You find yourself way over your head. And I think that is why some of the Rn’s in these hot spots are having such a hard time. It can be a war for sure. I hope no one makes light of it like it is no big thing, cause it is.
Yes, she has experience in both ER and ICU but her current position is with a practice that does elective surgery. Since they are closed, they are working at the hospital associated with the practice.
I will ask my infusion nurse what her friends are experiencing in the Charlotte area which I have heard has more cases than over here in Raleigh.
I spoke with my nurse friend and got clarification. She said the Emergency Dept is chaos with folks who just come in and demand to be tested as well as sick folks. There are currently 6 on ventilators at her hospital.
