While I’m on the fence with respect to all the D.U.M.B. stuff at this point, if you were fighting a major engagement in a subterranean environment you would have scores of potential wounded and incapacitated involving lung impairment. Think of people suffering smoke inhalation in a fire. In a combat scenario with significant duration you are going to have to have a variety of respiratory protection from filters to supplied air and even mine safety escape carbon monoxide scrubbers (which apparently suck to use because you have to clamp it in your teeth/lips tightly and it gets really hot if levels are high, but the alternative is death).
(I wonder if there are any AFV’s converted to propane or electric last few years?)
