We need more men like him.
He endangered his troops and national security by allowing his letter to become public knowledge. A major security blunder.
He has been terminated for violating OpSec. He didn’t just send his concerns up the Chain of Command. He leaked his memo to the media.
That is totally unacceptable behavior for a JO. It is beyond unacceptable for the Commanding Officer of a nuclear Aircraft Carrier. He should be reduced in rank and discharged.
Actually he put our first line of defense in the Western Pacific in serious jeopardy by not following proper protocol. He created a vulnerability in our defenses. It would be as if an Air Force Commanding Offecer stood down his nuclear missiles for a similar reason.
His comment that we are not at war was an outrage. The CV could be called upon at any moment to deploy to a trouble spot at the President’s direction. If he takes his CV offline (as he did) he reduces our capabilities by one half causing the sailors on the other CV task group to have to double time it.
This carrier and the other forward deployed carrier have the duty to support the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, the show of power in the South China Sea, the contractual obligations to Japan and other allies.
He placed far more peoples lives in jeopardy than those of his ailing sailors. People above his paygrade are the ones who have to make those life and death choices. His duty was to follow his orders and to formally announce to his chain of command any serious degradation of his ship’s abilities so they and the President can make those judgment calls.
Bullshit. Because of his actions the Chinese and the Russians knew we were probably down a carrier group.
There are better ways to handle this.

He protected his troops at the sacrifice of his career.
We need more men like him.

Hmmm.. so how many of his men were hospitalized in the carriers sick bay? It would be interesting to have a random sample of the crew who did not test positive for active Coronavirus be given a serum Coronavirus antibody test to determine how many already had and cleared the virus.
No we dont need more like him. His only concern was to keep his kids from getting sick. He didnt care if it took the entire ship out of action. He wanted 10% skeleton crew. He prattled on and on about that.
You know what he never mentioned? He never mentioned a plan to get replacements flown out immediately to get the ship back into readiness. He never asked for additional supplies to sanitize. He never asked for additional medical personnel. He never recommended the next carrier accelerate its deployment schedule to relieve them. Operational readiness was dead last on his list.
He even use the weasel term, we are not at war. That is always used by people intending to perform to a sub standard level. Next, he sent it to his hometown newspaper. His communication was already childish and not fitting of a man leading a strategic asset, but he still couldve sent it to the chain of command via secure and encrypted communications links.
Last, his official portrait is an embarrassment to the Navy. He sitting there with a moronic grin. In most parts of the world, if someone sits there grinning that way, people think they are a simpleton. Look at the official portraits of Admirals Halsey, Nimitz, Kincaid, King, Spruance, Mitscher, Badger... They all look halfway pissed off and a little bit annoyed that they have to sit there for a photo. And they look suspicious. Thank God this guy got relieved of duty. He is most definitely not one of the top 11 men in the Navy. Thats how many fleet carriers we have.
And hes already been passed over for promotion twice
Nothing more needs to be said then. If he felt that a leaked letter to the press was worth more than his career and that there were no other options available, then so be it.
Nope - the type you are talking about stand in front of their commander and move up the chain - they don’t use complaining w/o actual action as the main attempt and blindside leadership to boot - he would have crucified any sailor that did that to him....and rightly so.
I agree
