Don’t confuse “quarantine” with “mitigation.”
Quarantine is for when you have been or probably have been exposed to someone with the virus, like the people on the ships. It should really be 24 days but it’s 14.
Mitigation is what we’re doing now on a less precise but broader scale to flatten that ol’ curve. Basically, it’s keeping the asymptomatic away from others on the assumption that there are many of those unwitting spreaders around. And the purpose of flattening the curve is to keep from overwhelming the health care systems.
I’m glad they are doing this. I would never want to be one of those unwitting spreaders. Since we can’t waste resources by having everyone tested (and besides, what would it prove, since you could be infected shortly after the test?), this is the way to do it. I am proud of the team and grateful that we have this talent. Most of the criticism comes from people who don’t realize that blindsiding the victim country is part of the plan. OK, that succeeded in part, but now that we’re on to it there’s no stopping us, except for willful ignorance.
