“Virologists say a virus mostly mutates to not kill its host, otherwise it will die out with the host.”

Mutations are random. They can become more lethal - and burn out, or more mild and become not worth the bother. Spanish Flu is still with us today in a milder form.

I agree. Mutations are random and not uniform. Virus don’t have brains, and so can’t know when their host is at the die or live point until they ‘look around’ and see, hey, no more cells to infect, uh oh, dead host. Find another one.

I’d say what ‘mutates’ is our immune system. Want to kill me? Fat chance buddy watch this trick! Sometimes our immune system can’t mutate fast enough, tho. Especially with a virus like this that attacks so many systems at once.
