It depends entirely on the situation.
If tied along the pier in San Diego and not due to rotate on deployment for another year, it’s one thing.
But when you are the point of the spear deployed in WestPac, it’s an entirely different matter.
What if that ship had to get underway on 24hrs notice to prevent a Chinese seizure of a flagged Japanese island? Would not the Admiral be correct in risking the crew?
Agreed—details matter...but we are seeing several navy ships out there with CV, and maybe more we don’t know about—totally preventable (at least imho)—and that suggests to me some very poor leadership at the very top of the Navy.
