I had no idea Philly had a Chinatown.
So far, no news about the mayor being infected. I’m not convinced that Chinatowns anywhere are a focus of the virus. Boris Johnson, presumably using MI-6 sources, both sigint and humint, postulates that the Chinese death toll is 40x the published numbers. That would bring it to the 120K level. That’s still 1/2 the per capita number in Italy so far. And Italy’s daily deaths are still in the 800 range. The really interesting aspect is that Chinese restaurants were boycotted by Orientals, but non-Orientals continued showing up, and no particular cluster of people having been infected through restaurant visits of any kind has been documented.
My suspicion is that the key mode of transmission is gatherings where people are jammed practically shoulder-to-shoulder.
Would it be bad to hope this mayor is infected?

Yes, the virus is another proud Chinese immigrant. Chinese immigrants have contributed in so many ways to American society. Kung Flu is like the martial art. The latter is an ancient system of exercise to keep people healthy and able to defend themselves, even killing people with just a touch in the right spot. Kung Flu is an even more ancient system of compromising immune systems and killing people. Those poor microbes come with nothing, not even the clothes on their back, just a host to use and discard. Why doesn’t Emma Lazarus’ poem apply to microbes? Racism, that’s why!
