Think it's about 40 miles or so from our county line. It's close enough. I know our area law enforcement has been doing traffic stops on and having trouble with people out of Austin a lot lately, so they're probably behind some of the store looting that's been going on.

Yes, turns out they are sold out. I was two weeks behind where I wanted to be going into this because I bought another house and had to move. A bit tiring for an old coot so I rationalized holding off for another week, twice. It put me behind in some areas. Not to worry we will get by. I have a garden hose... ;D

Lot of them are specialty papers. Wrapping paper, shipping paper cardboard etc.
Then a lot are publishing paper and paper for labels.

I wonder how many are pulp/pulp and paper mills.

BTW, the Manistique MI mill is not running.

Interesting about plant shut downs. I really hadn’t looked at them
closely. But if the major petro/chemical facilities shut down we
will have some true impact upon the ability to do much of anything.

Walmart .. https://corporate.walmart.com/important-store-info

Additionally, from March 24 to April 28, our stores will host a senior shopping
hour every Tuesday for customers age 60 and older who may be more vulnerable.
This will start one hour before the store opens. Our pharmacies and vision centers
will also be open during this time.

Just got done talking to a guy who works at Procter & Gamble at Green Bay Wisconsin. They make tissue paper exclusively there-matter of fact, that was one mill I used to ship wood to before they had to shut down the pulp mill. The paper mill still is running.

He said that they produce enough tissue paper there that it can wrap the world around once, EACH DAY.

Now why are we out of TP? I can NOT fathom people hoarding that much TP!

That is just ONE MILL.

BTW, they shut the Pulp mill down because of what I stated AND started getting bailed pulp in from South America made from eucalyptus trees because it makes softer TP. The aspen we shipped in had to sit till it had toad stools growing on the ends because that made softer TP. Believe it or NOT.

The problem here is idiocy, obviously. But beyond that, it is politicians that ignore the law of supply and demand through “price-gouging” laws.

If the price were allowed to fluctuate according to that basic economic law, the price would rise to the point that the hoarders wouldn’t continue to buy it. Once that happened, the supply could catch up and the price would come back down.

Not that I ever give politicians any credit for economic knowledge. My best example is AOC - has an economics BA degree yet is about as ignorant about economics as anyone.

“AOC - has an economics BA degree”

Well, she got it by working while on her back.

Calculations at the length below

If you wanted to really go the distance, and wrap the Earth’s
equator around a roll of toilet paper, it would require ~180
thousand jumbo rolls taped end to end.

To wrap the Earth completely in toilet paper would require
21 trillion such rolls.

Its not TP exclusively. They make tissue paper..napkins, facial, TP and whatever else tissue paper is used for. Hand sanitizers I supposed also.

FYI.
