I said about a month ago.
This is a kobayashi-maru scenario for Trump.
If he doesn’t do enough, there will be families of the dead in umpteed campaign ads for as far as the eye can see this fall. (The cuomo campaign with this is just beginning in NY)
If he does just enough (or too much, we’ll never know), the dems will shriek ‘OMG, trump’s an idiot, he killed the economy for the common cold/flu!’. (many posters on this very board)
Comparing this (or anything else) to flu stats in this country is difficult. Flu stats are themselves a dumpster fire.

At this point, I think the country’s course of action is
locked in for at least the next few weeks. The public
approves of the President’s shutdown with the only
criticism being it should have begun earlier.
In spite of a few hardcore flu dead-enders and psychotic
materialists I think the public and Administration are
committed to the safe and sane approach.
