Santa Cruz County Health: COVID-19 surge “will exceed bed capacity”
Newel said she’s expecting the surge to begin within the next two weeks. It’s in line with a recent study from The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), an independent research center at the University of Washington quantifying global health challenges.
The IHME said the peak of the virus will come April 24, and while the state has enough hospital beds for their projections, the state is short about 300 intensive care units.
They project the United States’ peak resource use will take place April 14, and the country is short 49,292 beds and 14,601 intensive care units.
