If they are checking SS benefits as was said it would be obvious that some seniors make too little to pay taxes or file. Why would they not qualify as any other low income citizen?

Not sure if folks caught my drift...

Loose hypothetical...

Husband and wife own a restaurant. They made 200k last year, now making virtually zero. They don’t get any income relief.

Govt workers, still being paid, under the threshold. They get the income relief.

What someone made LAST year should be irrelevant. That has no real indicator whether they are struggling this year or not.

I suppose it doesn’t matter. The checks are a gimmicky band-aid at best.
