NETHERLANDS

Biggest increase to date: 117 more corona patients on ICU

There are currently 761 corona patients in intensive care, 117 more than yesterday. This is reported by the Dutch Association for Intensive Care. It is the largest increase yet.

A total of 925 ICU beds are currently available for corona patients. According to Minister De Jonge of Health, this can be extended to 1037 on April 1. All in all, there should be 1,612 ICU beds (except for corona patients, 575 for other patients).

Diederik Gommers of the Dutch Association for Intensive Care says to BNR Nieuwsradio that due to the sharp increase, the more than 1,600 ICU beds that have been released for next week are not enough. “The increase is very bad news. This means that we will be there in 3 days, instead of 6 or 7 days.”
