My mom was in it. She started when we were in the Philippines back in the late 70s. Painting was her thing. I love her paintings and remember her trying to teach me and my kids.

I was alway astounded by how much a Sumi-e master could express with a single stroke of a gradient-loaded brush.

I once watched one at an outdoor O-Shogatsu (New Year) festival paint most of a meter-long dragon (scales & all) on a scroll -- with a single, controlled stroke with a large brush!
