New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo criticized the federal response to coronavirus, saying the Federal Emergency Management Agency sent the state 400 ventilators but they need 30,000. “
FEMA says, ‘we’re sending 400 ventilators.’ Really? What am I going to do with 400 ventilators, when I need 30,000?”
Cuomo asked asked at a news conference. “You pick the 26,000 people who are going to die because you only sent 400 ventilators,” Cuomo added.
Is there any even slight truth to Cuomo’s projections?
If so - FEMA needs to get in there quickly
Let's conduct policy based on claims I pull out of my ass rather than science yayyyyyyyyy https://t.co/J5wK6SSSyR— Steve Lookner (@lookner) March 24, 2020
I don’t even care what party Cuomo is in - I watched his press conference this morning, and that man is a GREAT. LEADER.
Now, I’m watching our POTUS and it’s clear as day he DOESN’T. GET. IT. Actually talking about “opening the country back up, because we weren’t designed to ever shut down”. All he cares about is the economy. Actually back to comparing flu (WTF?!!!!) and CAR CRASH statistics. (No, Donald, a car crash doesn’t cause 2-3 OTHER car crashes until the entire freaking COUNTRY has car crashed, like this virus will do if unchecked). WHAT A MORON!!
Compare the two.
I hate to say this and sure I’ll get flamed for it, but I’d actually vote Cuomo over Trump at this point for POTUS. Too bad Andrew is not running.
Trump has lost my vote. No way I’m voting for Biden or whoever the Dems put up, but Trump has COMPLETELY LOST IT at this point.
One could ask why Cuomo did not inventory all ventilators in the state by March 1st and initiated procurement then.
Instead, he NEEDS a scapegoat in hopes of avoiding hanging by the neck until dead.
So Cuomo wants every available respirator in the country shipped to him. Then what happens to the rest of the nation?
They should install manifolds and multiply the capacity of each ventilator.
Several years ago, after learning that the Empire States stockpile of medical equipment had 16,000 fewer ventilators than the 18,000 New Yorkers would need in a severe pandemic, state public-health leaders came to a fork in the road.
They could have chosen to buy more ventilators to back up the supplies hospitals maintain. Instead, the health commissioner, Howard Zucker, assembled a task force for rationing the ventilators they already had.
In 2015, that task force came up with rules that will be imposed when ventilators run short. Patients assigned a red code will have highest access, and other patients will be assigned green, yellow or blue (the worst), depending on a triage officers decision.
In truth, a death officer. Lets not sugar-coat it. It wont be up to your own doctor.
In 2015, the state could have purchased the additional 16,000 needed ventilators for $36,000 apiece, or a total of $576 million.
The President just reminded everyone that Cuomo refused to buy new ventilators when he could have.
That would be according to common core math, eh, Governor?
Trump had a purchase order for ventilators showing Cuomo refused to order any.
