Shutting down our economy while China ramps up not only damages us economically, it is a national security concern.
If China or Russia perceives us weak economically, they could attack us.
There are so many people here that want us to be shut in, and that makes us vulnerable to rogue nations.
Yes, people may die. Up to a million. I may die if I contract this virus.
I know we will all die if we shut down until a vaccine is made.

No one is suggesting an indefinite shut down. It is an ebb and flow. Shut down long enough to allow healthcare to catch up, open long enough to allow economy to catch up. This “dance” will have to continue for a long time for this to neither crash the economy or the healthcare system. You cannot crash either. Do you get that? Because crashing ONE crashes BOTH.
China is dead in the water. Look at traffic congestion in the major cities. It is still down 40%. Container traffic is down a similar amount.
China and Russia are in no economic position to takes us on in a war. Period.
You are not going to die. Food will continue to flow. Support mechanisms would be created. Your family will help you.
Opening up is going to be a shit-show the first several times they try it. Our economy is toast for about a year. Realize it. Adjust. Adapt. Overcome.

I don’t think that has ever been on the table. Nor do I recall seeing anybody advocate for that.
But if we had a 24 hour curfew for 2 or 3 weeks, nationwide, (call out for supplies) and absolutely sealed our borders, we would be largely free of the virus. Simply not feasible, though. Instead we have to fight a slow retreat until reinforcements arrive.
