He’s in a tough spot for sure, but has two choices: open the economy and crash the healthcare system - and shortly thereafter, the economy, OR crash the economy and try to preserve the healthcare system. Neither choice is “good”, but the answer SHOULD be obvious. It’s terrifying that he can’t see what is so blatantly clear.

Exactly. The economy never had a chance against COVID-19 in the short term, unless the hydroxychlorophine turns out to be a silver bullet.

However, if we choose to learn the lesson, I believe this can prove to be a great opportunity to retool the economy in the mid to long term, and bring back a lot of manufacturing of basic goods. We need to decouple our economy from China and bring basic manufacturing back. Steel. Pharmaceuticals. Clothing and textiles, automobiles, power generators. These can be good jobs that pay well, support a family, and serve as a solid foundation for a growing economy for many years to come. If we learn the lessson.

Maybe he can see what's blatantly clear. Trump is always on a meta-level. He's doing an FDR. He's giving us the spiritual food we desperately need. We may lose the war anyway, but without that we can never win.
